What Is Podcasting
The word ”podcast” is a concatenation of the words iPod and broadcast. The underlying technology used for podcasts, called RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is capable of containing any type of media including audio, video, graphics, and more.
Podcasting is a way of publishing podcasts to the web, allowing people to subscribe to a podcast and receive new ”episodes” automatically through an RSS feed. Podcasting consists of publishing XML files which contain references to media (called “enclosures”) to a website. Podcast aggregators (often called “podcatchers”), then read these XML files and download all the linked enclosures.
Unlike terrestrial and Internet radio, podcasts are time-shifted, meaning that listeners have control over when and where they hear their favorite programming. And, the episodes are delivered automatically to a subscriber on iTunes so the latest updates are always readily available with no effort required by the listener.
Podcasts offer iTunes users and iPod owners the same freedom and level of control they are familiar with when listening to their own personal music collections.

What is avMyPodcast?
The genesis of avMyPodcast came about when we began to develop corporate podcasts. In order to get the podcast up and running, we needed to find server space for the data, develop XML code denoting all of the episodes for the podcast client/aggregator, and then submit the final code to iTunes...all while hoping that our XML code was good. We had to configure the server to accept different media types...accounting for mp3, m4v, mov, etc...etc...
It just seemed like too much work.
That's when avMyPodcast was born. We do all of the work for you. We are your host. We are your programmers. We make sure your podcast works. We submit your podcasts to the iTunes music store and yahoo. We allow you to focus upon what you do best...creating content. We also make your distribution easier by allowing you to link friends and family automatically to your podcasts.
All of this is done via our EasyCast system. With a single click your new podcast "show" is created. Your shows are listed in a format that's easy to understand and manage. To view your podcast, simply click "view". Editing your podcast and adding episodes couldn't be easier.
Once you've created your show, adding or editing your episodes is just a click away. Managing your content couldn't be simpler.
Do I need an iPod to podcast?
Absolutely not!
While podcasting is a normally a means of distributing your content to iPods, at avMyPodcast we realize that you may want to have people without iPods view your shows as well. We want your shows to be accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
As a subscriber, each one of your shows will have it's own unique web address where your friends and family can come to easily view your shows.
I already have a podcast - can I use your service?
We are currently working on adding a feature that will allow you to transfer your existing podcasts to our service. When this feature is finished - we will offer this as a standard feature with no additional charge.
What File Formats Are Podcasts?
Podcasts come in the following formats:
| Audio |

- MPEG4 Audio (.m4a)
- Quicktime Audio (.mov)
|
| Video |

For audio episode creation, any sound editor that produces mp3 audio files will do perfectly.
For video episode creation, we suggest you buy Apple's Quicktime Pro. Quicktime Pro's export settings include "Export to iPod (320x240)". Trust us - this will save you a ton of time over trying to figure out the compression settings yourself.
